In high school, she won her first prize at the New Mexico golf state tournament. In addition to volleyball, she competed on an official level. She attended an institution called the University of Texas in 2003. In her senior year, she was a winner in every single tournament that she took part in. During the undergraduate seasons, she won the Conference USA's player of the year as well as UTEP Female Athletic Champion of the Year.
