Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared on film and television and in stage productions, is known for portraying Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. Her talent for acting was evident since childhood. In a Maryland high-school contest awarded her the best actress award. The path to acting began when she joined the Washington Ballet Company and theater. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her first major performance. Then came movies like "Boogie Nights Spark" and Blue Streak. Soul Food was an immensely well-loved TV show. Her TV appearances include Second Time Around and Empire. She was also on stage in a variety of productions in the beginning of her career. Parker is engaged to Boris Kodjoe, an actor and model. Two children were born to them.
The family was born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until the age of seven, Contractor was well-informed about world travels and a variety of civilizations at an extremely young age. The boarding school she attended was in London from seven to nine years old, then her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a brilliant pupil in Toronto and was educated to become the classical ballet dancer. She was a student at an Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school where she not only danced but also studied theater. Contractor started acting at the age of 16 after completing a total of 10 years in dance. She was awarded a full scholarship to attend the University of Toronto after graduating. The university offered her master's degree in theatre and double majored in social and psychology. After a single year at University, Contractor went to an open audition for the play Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the role of lead. After 92 performances, she received positive reviews. The production was recognized as one of the most successful productions in Canada by the critics. The actor was invited to take part in the conservatory, where only eight males as well as four women can be accepted for a 20-week crash course on classical theater which she eagerly took. Contractor was guaranteed a spot in the next season of productions and was offered the part as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
